Position Summary

Under the direction of the director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and manager Radiation Oncology, the Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse Navigator functions on the multidisciplinary team as an advocate, educator, and counselor for Radiation Oncology patients specifically and oncology patients in general. Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse provides nursing assessment, intervention, symptom management, and education to the radiation therapy population. The Radiation Oncology Nurse provides a coordinated, comprehensive plan of patient care to the radiation therapy patient; is responsible for delivering direct nursing care and patient education to the patient population receiving radiation therapy on an outpatient basis; and is responsible for delivering nursing care and patient education on a limited basis specific to radiation oncology needs to the patient population receiving radiation therapy on an inpatient basis. This position serves as a single point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to provide resources and assistance with accessing clinical and supportive care services, serving as a clinical resource with expertise in Radiation Oncology care management, throughout the continuum of the patient’s cancer journey, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Experience

Previous clinical experience as an Oncology Nurse Navigator or Radiation Oncology Nurse is preferred. Excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as organizational, analytical, and written and presentation skills required. 2 years of recent RN experience working with Hematology/Oncology patients is preferred. Skillful in starting patient IV lines required.

Education

A graduate of a School of Nursing or equivalent and currently licensed to practice in the State of California required. Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment of patients requiring the applicable skill and must complete and pass all annual competencies. Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.

Licensure/Certifications

State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required. The ONS/ONCC Radiation Therapy Certificate is required and must be obtained within 90 days of starting the position. OCN certification, or Oncology Nurse Navigator–Certified Generalist (ONN-CG) certification preferred and desirable within three years of accepting position.

Pay Range (based on years of applicable experience):

$72.45

to

$96.90

The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.

Hourly Evening Shift Differential: $5.50

Hourly Night Shift Differential: $8.00
